"Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years Of Grateful Dead" features the "core four" original members of the band reunited on July 4th weekend in 2015 at Chicago's Soldier Field, marking the first time the four had performed together since the Dead's 2009 tour.
Publicized as the final time the musicians would all perform together, the demand for tickets was astronomical, breaking Ticketmaster records with over 500,000 people logging on to purchase and breaking attendance records for Soldier Field. Due to the high demand, the concert was simulcast to select movie theaters and concert venues in the United States and made available live (for purchase) on YouTube and other pay-per-view services. The concert pay-per-view set a new record for music events, with more than 400,000 subscriptions.
The July 5th performance was later released on DVD, giving Grateful Dead fans access to over 3 1/2 hours of the record-breaking weekend.
